Who we are
Danny Frank began working on fishing and whale watching boats in Monterey when he was 14 years old. Danny studied for his Captains license when he was 17 and passed the coast guard test, but he had to wait for a year and a half before he was old enough to have it. With spending most his life on the water he had a great fascination and appreciation for the marine life that existed here in the Monterey Bay. He knew that there was no where on earth that could compare.
In 2004 cetacean researcher Sarah Graham introduced him to his first camera. Seeing that he had the eye for beauty and the opportunity to photograph marine life on a daily basis she gave Danny her Nikon N-80 in a backpack and told him to bring it with him everywhere. Now Danny travels up and down the coast taking pictures of whatever he thinks is beautiful or interesting. Danny has since up graded from the old N-80 and 5.6 lenses, but the principals are the same.
Being a boat captain, Danny has the unique opportunity of seeing and now photographing some of the most unbelievable and undocumented marine life events. After 15 years of making his life on the water he realizes the importance of conserving the ocean and all its inhabitants. Danny uses his collection of photographs and stories to share with the world the beauty that we need to all protect.
Every trip out on the water results in not only a wonderful experience, beautiful photos but also pounds of trash collected off the water. By purchasing a photo you are contributing to the cleanup of the Monterey Bay.

What is the SEA Program
SEA Program
Strengthening Environmental Awareness
Creating and Synergizing Environmental Stewards
What is Synergizing Environmental Stewards?
• syn•er•gy
n. pl. syn•er•gies
The term is derived from the Greek syn-ergos, συνεργός meaning working together.
A synergy is where different entities cooperate advantageously for a final outcome.
Simply defined, it means that the effect of the whole is greater than the sum of the effects of the individual parts. Although the whole will be greater than each individual part, this is not the concept of synergy. If used in a business application it means that teamwork will produce an overall better result than if each person was working toward the same goal individually.
Synergy usually arises when two persons with different complementary skills cooperate. In business, cooperation of people with organizational and technical skills happens very often. In general, the most common reason why people cooperate is it brings a synergy. (From Wikipedia.org)
• Environmental stewardship
Stewardship is an ethic that embodies cooperative planning and management of environmental resources with organizations, communities and others to actively engage in the prevention of loss of habitat and facilitate its recovery in the interest of long-term sustainability (Fisheries and Oceans Canada - 'Stewardship in Action' program)
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), defines environmental stewardship as the responsibility for environmental quality shared by all those whose actions affect the environment. To be a steward, and or act in steward to an object, is known as stewardness (from Wikipedia.org).

The history of the SEA Program
History
My name is Sarah Graham and I became involved in the behavioral study of terrestrial and aquatic animals in 1993. Since that time, I have been fortunate to have been able to travel a great deal studying the behavior of animals, and human - animal interaction from all corners of the world; from the United States and Canada, to New Zealand, Italy and Spain. Through my studies, one of my most significant observations is the connection of animals to humans and the ocean. I have observed animals in captivity and the way that humans interact with them. I have observed humans harvesting resources from the ocean with a negative impact. I have also observed ocean harvesting responsibly, producing a minimal impact. I have also seen humans interact with marine mammals with very positive results (personal impact and financial impact). Nowhere in the world showed this more than when I started my behavior studies in the Monterey Bay in 2004. Monterey Bay has one of the largest collections of ocean research and protection organizations in the world. It is home to the Monterey Bay Aquarium (a leader in the field), one of three best places in the world for whale watching and over 60% of the business are directly impacted by the Monterey Bay. In the Monterey Bay, we not only hear about our direct impact on the ocean and its inhabitants, but we can see it too.
Through my daily networking, I provide education on my studies, specifically the whale and dolphin behaviors, and am able to create a ‘relationship’ between animals and humans directly impacted in the Monterey Bay
Since 1995 I have also been involved in business management, working in every aspect of business from finances and marketing to employee relations. In 2002 while receiving training in New Zealand, I learned how to meld the animal research and business management and as a result, the SEA Program uses my personal experience in business management and animal research to educate the public in a way we can all understand as well as inspire change. Currently, I work with whale watch and fishing businesses, the commercial fishing industry, restaurants and retail businesses as well as assisting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary (MBNMS) and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Foundation (MBNMSF). I also coordinate efforts with many nonprofit organizations listed at the end.
Being an environmental steward, I started thinking of ways that I as an individual could "synergize" my activities among the many projects and groups I am a part of. As a result of my studies on the ocean and connection to business, governmental organizations and non-profit organizations, I implemented a ‘guardian angel’ system to not only help the animals but to improve productivity of organizations.
I believe the most important researchers in the wild kingdom are the active ones who stand up as guardian angels and protect their studied animals. Some of those researchers include Dr Ingrid Visser New Zealand; Alex Morton, Canada; Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey, Africa. These people are my inspiration for creating the SEA (Strengthening Environmental Awareness) Program.
Thus the SEA Program was created. The SEA Program is made up of individuals consisting of clients and/or partners and our goal is to inspire change in the world.

How does SEA Program strengthen environmental awareness?
Through knowledge and experience gained from working with a variety of work forces (blue collar to government to high end management), SEA Program is able to “look outside the box” and move forward with implementation of green or sustainable practices into your business, daily activities and/or outreach to the public. We do not over-science you on the importance of all of us needing to make a small change but show you how easy it can be for each of us to do our part to help the environment. The science is out there the scare is apparent in our daily news, but the big question on everyone’s mind is “But what can I do?” I help you find that answer. At the bottom of this pamphlet is a description of the variety of services offered by SEA Program. Our training sessions are presented in a fun and informative format and will have you walking away fulfilled and wanting to learn more.
